#1 Bloomberg ranking richest in the world: Bill Gates at no.1
Among 200 billionaires for the exercise Bloomberg has released a list of the ten richest people in the world. Bill Gates at number 1, Jeff Bezos at number 4, Mark Zuckerberg at number 8 and Warren Buffett at number 3. Years of hard work gets people where they are today. Bloomberg has released a list with their earnings in billions of dollars.
1. Bill Gates
The co-founder of Microsoft, programmer, Bill Gates has a solid profile that makes him the richest individual, worth marked $85.9 billion. He resigned as CEO of Microsoft in 2000 and as Chairman in 2008. He is also the founder of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. And now he works full-time at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is the technology adviser to the current CEO Satya Nadella now.
2. Amancia Ortega
He is the wealthiest among retailers in the world. A pioneer in fast fashion, he cofounded Zara parent Inditex with his ex-wife Rosalia Mera in 1975. Ortega earns more than $400 million in dividends a year, and has plowed that money into an ever-expanding real estate portfolio, which includes buildings in Madrid, Barcelona, London, Chicago, Miami and New York. Ortega is the richest man in Europe.
In 2011, Ortega announced his imminent retirement from Inditex, parent company of the Zara chain, stating that he would ask Inditex vice-president and CEO Pablo Isla to take his place at the helm of the textile empire.
3. Warren Buffett
He is known as the “Oracle of Omaha”. The son of a U.S. congressman, he first bought stock at age 11 and first filed taxes at age 13. He has committed to giving more than 99% of his fortune to charity. So far he has given $28.5 billion. Buffett is one of the most successful investors of all time. His Berkshire Hathaway owns more than 60 companies, including Geico, Duracell and Dairy Queen. With friend Bill Gates, he launched The Giving Pledge, asking billionaires to donate their wealth.
