India’s Manushi Chhillar won the Miss World beauty pageant for the year 2017. This is India’s 6th Miss World title. The last time was in 2000, when Priyanka Chopra won the crown. Stephanie Hill, who is Miss England was the first runner up followed by Miss Mexico Andrea Meza as the second runner up. Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle passed on the coveted crown to Chhillar.
Ms Chhillar, a 20-year-old from Haryana, born to doctor parents, studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. Ms Chhillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profitable hospitals in rural areas. At Miss Wold 2017, Chhillar was named one of the five winners of the Beauty with a Purpose award at Miss World 2017 on 18 November in Sanya City Arena, China. The other winners of the title are contestants from South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines.
Reaching the top five, Ms Chhillar was asked a question, during the Question – Answer round that which profession she thought deserved the highest salary and why. Ms Chhillar replied that it was not a question about a person’s salary and added that,” A mother was worthy of the highest respect. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect.”
